DRAFT – Application Process

Apply for Funding & What to Expect

Step 1: Review our Guidelines

Review our application guidelines and determine if your organization and project falls within our funding criteria.

If you are unsure as to the alignment of your project with our guidelines, or have not yet spoken with a member of our Program Staff, please send an email to info@benedum.org with a brief summary of your project. Someone from our Program Staff will be in touch within 10 business days of your inquiry.

The Foundation does not have submission deadlines and applications are accepted throughout the year.

Step 2: Submit a Proposal

Please note: New applicants will need to create an online “MyAccount” prior to accessing our online application. After clicking the appropriate link below, you will be directed to a sign-in page that contains instructions for creating an account.

Once we receive your completed online application, an automated response will be sent to you acknowledging receipt. The application will be assigned to a member of the program staff, and you can anticipate a response within 60 days.

If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to speak to someone personally, please contact the Grants Administrator, at 412-246-3636.

Step 3: Review Process

The Foundation undertakes a review process that, from the submission of an application to an approval or declination, may take up to 90 days or longer.

  • All proposals are processed by our Grants Administrator. During this stage of the process you may be contacted for additional information or clarification on information provided on the application.
  • Once a proposal has been initially reviewed and all necessary information and documentation is in place, the proposal is then reviewed by our President and Program Staff at regularly scheduled Program meetings. If the application is to receive further consideration, it will be assigned to a member of the Program Staff, who may contact you for further information. The assigned member of the Program Staff and the President decide whether to recommend an application for approval. Factors such as timing of a project, the project budget, or the Foundation’s funding schedule may have an impact on when proposals may be approved or denied.
  • Proposals that are approved for submission to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees are then placed on the agenda for consideration and vote by the Board.
  • Within two weeks of grant approval, grantees are notified of the award via a grant agreement letter.
  • At any point in the process, if a decision is made not to recommend an application to the Board, or by the Board not to award funding, you will receive a declination letter.

Step 4: Reporting

INTERNAL NOTE: In order to keep things a bit cleaner and easier to find, I propose adding a new page to the website which would be for reporting information. This would simply be a new sub-navigation item under the Apply & Report tab. We can leave Step 4 here and easily link over to the new page.

Grantees are required to submit written reports of the project funded. The reporting requirements and due date are set by your Program Director and are outlined in the Grant Agreement Letter you receive after grant approval.

Online report forms are posted to your MyAccount 30 days prior to the due date and may be accessed through your My Account under the “Requirements” heading. If the grant report form has not been posted, contact the Grants Administrator, at 412-246-3636 or info@benedum.org.
